Fakhrul again labels BNP chief Khaleda Zia as the first woman freedom fighter of Bangladesh

The BNP on Sunday organized a procession on the occasion of the Victory Day.

Inaugurating the event in the capital’s Naya Paltan, party's Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said: "Our victory journey has just begun."

He described the procession as an inspiration for a new struggle to bring back democracy in Bangladesh.

In his speech, the former state minister again claimed that BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia was the first woman freedom fighter of Bangladesh.

The government and the ruling party Awami League have carried out a number of programs to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the country’s victory.

On Sunday, a large number of leaders and workers of the party took part in the event with banners and festoons.

Members of the law enforcement agencies were seen on alert at various points since the morning centring the procession.

BNP supporters were seen chanting slogans like “another name for independence, Ziaur Rahman”, “we want release, we want release of Khaleda Zia”.

A temporary stage was set up on a truck in front of the party office. At 12 noon, the road was closed due to the presence of thousands of leaders and activists on both side of the road between Nightingale and Kakrail. Roads on both sides were closed at 12:30pm.
