Bangladeshi shepherd Abul Hossain (45) died after being hit by a spinning wheel used to smuggle cows from India at the border of Kaliganj upazila of Lalmonirhat.

The deceased Abul Hossain is a resident of Master Para of Chandrapur Union of Upazila. His body was taken home on Thursday (November 16) evening.

Police and locals said that four days ago some local shepherds and cattle traders along with Abul Hossain went to the border.

There, Abul Hossain and a group of smugglers were crossing the barbed wire fence of Indian cows.  At that time, the bamboo of Charkar fell on his head and the shepherd Abul Hossain was seriously injured.  Later the companions rescued him and secretly admitted him to a clinic in Rangpur.  He died on Thursday while undergoing treatment there.

After taking his body home, Kaliganj police station got the news and sent the body to Lalmonirhat Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy.

According to a border source, Abul Hussain went to the border to smuggle cows belonging to a local UP member.  The UP member who owns the cow tried to settle the matter by giving some money but failed.

Kaliganj Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Imtiaz Kabir said, "I don't know whether it was at the border or not, but he was injured and later died after being hit by a charka bamboo."  The body has been recovered.  A case is being filed by the family of the deceased in the Kaliganj police station.

Cattle smugglers from India use a device made of bamboo to cross the high barbed wire border.  Locally this instrument is called Charka.
